Bourbon balls

Since I’m originally from Kentucky, it is necessary for me to enjoy bourbon balls! However, in Texas, bourbon balls can be hard to find, so we had to make our own! These are great for holiday parties as well as for the Derby, and they freeze well, too. Enjoy!

Bourbon Balls
From Best of the Best from Kentucky cookbook
Makes 40 balls

1 lb powdered sugar
5 Tbsp salted butter
1/3 cup bourbon
12oz bag semi-sweet chocolate chips

Combine butter and bourbon in a large bowl using an electric mixer. Slowly add sugar, a little bit at a time, and continue mixing until combined. Knead and roll into balls. Freeze until firm.

Melt chocolate chips in a microwave or in a double-boiler. Remove from heat. Use a fork or toothpick to dip the balls into the chocolate, and place on waxed paper to cool (refrigerate or freeze to harden the chocolate more quickly).

**Note** These are really sweet! So, you only need a couple – at most! For a small group, make 1/2 the recipe.
