Crockpot Spaghetti Sauce

I’m not a huge fan of the crock pot, in general, but this is a recipe my mom’s been making for ages. Since I now have my fancy browning crockpot, I thought I’d give this a try! The verdict? It’s tasty, and it makes A LOT! I’d advise making it for a large gathering or plan to freeze the leftovers!

Crockpot spaghetti sauce

Crock Pot Spaghetti Sauce
Adapted from Mom’s recipe
Serves 10 (about 1/2 cup per serving)

1.5 lbs 93% lean ground beef
1/2 Tbsp Italian sausage seasoning (I use Penzey’s)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
6 oz fresh mushrooms, sliced
1/2 cup red wine
28 oz can crushed tomatoes
2 6oz cans tomato paste
1/2 cup sliced black olives (about 3oz)
1 roasted red bell pepper, chopped (either jarred or freshly roasted)
3 bay leaves
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

1. Brown meat in a skillet or in the crockpot insert (in a browning crockpot) with sausage seasoning, onions, mushrooms, and green peppers.

2. If using a skillet, add cooked meat mixture to the crockpot. Add remaining ingredients to crock pot, stir to combine.

3. Cook on low heat for 6 hours.

4. Serve over your favorite pasta.
